is dedicated to my mother
Loretta E. Simmons
I want to thank you for always being there for me. You gave me the strength and wisdom to face any obstacle head on and this book was one of them. You always told me that I can do anything and this is just one way for me to say thank you.
I LOVE YOU
PSYCHE
sneak peek
After a while Aunt Mae returned holding an old dusty box.
“I believe this is yours”’ whispered Aunt Mae as she sat it on the table in front of Jesse.
The box looked as if it was over a hundred years old, dirty, cracked and scuffed. The hinges that held the top on were so rusted it was amazing that they still stayed together. A faint hint of color was all that was left from the original paint on the box. Aunt Mae wiped her hands clean, sat down and went back to her tea.
“Well are you going to just sit there like a bump on a log or are you going to open it?” asked Aunt Mae.
Jesse just sat there staring at the box for what seemed like hours more confused now than ever. Focusing so hard on the box, Jesse fixed his eyes on it to the point other people would of thought he could see right through it. His eyes were so wide they could almost fall out of his head, his fingers had almost a death grip on the box sitting in front of him. Thoughts were running through his head like a racecar zooming around a track at 200 miles an hour.
“I can’t”, whispered Jesse “it’s too much for me right now.”
His hands fell from the box and his head fell into them. Aunt Mae sat there with a slight grin on her face, staring at Jesse, while exhaustion took him over. The stress of the previous day, the adventure he is now forced to go on finally took hold. Jesse gave up, he could no longer sit there and listen to the old woman anymore he looked up at Aunt Mae
“Do you have a room?” murmured Jesse
“I just need to rest and think, it’s all a little too much for me to handle.”
Aunt Mae shook her head, disappointed at Jesse and proceeded to reach for the key.
“As long as you finished your tea you may leave the table.”
Aunt Mae stated as she reached into her pocket, pulled out a key and dropped it on the table as it hit with a twang. She stood up and headed down the hall shaking her head as she went. Jesse took one last gulp of his tea and stood up, grabbing the table to steady himself.
“Wait “ bellowed Jesse “where is the room?”
Aunt Mae paused for a moment in the dimly lit hallway standing quiet for a moment trying to gather her thoughts
“You still don’t get it do you boy” said Aunt Mae as she continued down the hall and turned towards the dark staircase heading to her room.
“This journey has been laid out for you since before you were born, listen to your heart and you will find your way.”
